FAQ

What is CBD?

CBD is an abbreviation of Cannabidiol, a natural constituent of hemp oil originating from the hemp plant. Cannabidiol is one of over 100 known cannabinoids, and is a major phytocannabinoids, accounting for up to 40% of the the hemp plant extract. Hemp is typically grown in the northern hemisphere and is a varietal of the cannabis sativa plant. Industrial hemp is specifically grown with distinct strains and has unique phytochemical compositions and uses. Hemp products such as hemp oil, hemp seed, hemp milk, hemp protein powder and CBD are legal in the United States under the US 2018 Farm Bill.  Learn more about it.

CBD is sometimes confused with cannabis as a drug because both are derived from the same species Cannabis sativa, yet hemp has minute concentrations of the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD in all its forms is non-psychoactive mainly for medical use, while THC has a psychoactive component which “gets you high”. The amounts of THC in industrial hemp are very low (under .3%) and ARE allowable by the federal government. In many instances, steps are taken to remove all THC, such as Eight Saints Brand has done in its CBD oil products, creating a THC-free experience. Eight Saints Brand does not sell or distribute any products that are in violation of the United States Controlled Substances Act (USCSA).

How CBD affects the body?

Cannabinoids are compounds that interact with the body’s central regulatory system. Cannabinoids can either be consumed (phytocannabinoids) or are produced naturally by the body (endocannabinoids). Phytocannabinoids interact with the body’s central regulatory system known as the endocannabinoid system, which is known to manage homeostasis and affect overall well-being. The body’s naturally occurring endocannabinoid, help support the regulatory system to keep bodies balanced day-to-day including: appetite, pain sensation, mood, memory, immune system functions, and inflammation control. Similar to how we use vitamin C to kick start our immune system, customers say CBD acts as a kick starter for these cannabinoids to keep the receptors working at optimal capacity and to help body’s central regulatory system function properly.
